VETERAN OF THE WEEK: JOE DOBBRATZ

Beaufort’s Joe Dobbratz, 93, joined the United States Marine Corps in 1951 during the Korean War. He attended the only OCS class held at MCRTD Parris Island since WWI. Posted to Pohang, Korea after commissioning, he later earned his wings as a Marine aviator, ultimately flying both helos and fixed wing aircraft including the CH-46 in Vietnam, the C-130 to and from Antarctica, and various combat aircraft. Senior officer billets included the Pentagon, as Chief of Staff at Quantico, in command of the Headquarters Support Squadron and as Executive Officer at MCAS Beaufort. Colonel Dobbratz retired in 1981.
