Beaufort’s Daniel Moore Jr. graduated from Battery Creek High School in 1990 and joined the United States Marine Corps in 1992. After Boot Camp at Parris Island and training as a radio operator and jump qualifications, he was assigned to Camp Lejeune, N.C., from which he deployed as liaison to NATO countries and twice to the Mediterranean with further duty in Somalia and Bosnia. He returned to recruiting duty in Greenville, S.C., before returning to Lejeune with further deployments to Iraq just after 9-11.
He next served again in recruiting, this time in North Charleston. He next served at Quantico as the Senior Enlisted Advisor for training and education before transferring to Hawaii, from which he made two six-month deployments to Okinawa. Finally back in Beaufort he served a tour at MCAS Beaufort with a squadron that deployed twice to Iwakuni, Japan. His final assignment was in Columbia at the regional recruiting station. He retired in 2019 as a Sergeant Major with more than 26 years of active service, of which more than 7 years were deployed. Today he works with the police department at MCAS Beaufort.
