Beaufort’s Bob Heck, 91, enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in Cleveland in 1948. After Boot Camp at Parris Island, he was assigned to the Marine Barracks in Norfolk, Va. Follow-on tours took him to Lejeune, including a Med deployment, then to Korea where he made the landing at Inchon, helped recapture Seoul and fought northward to the Chosin Reservoir in what is now North Korea. Returning to Lejeune, he transferred to the Reserves until 1966, when he resumed active status and deployed to Chu Lai, Vietnam. His later assignments included Okinawa, MCAS Beaufort, Florida, Iwakuni and Lejeune. He retired in 1982 as a Master Sergeant with 32 years service.
