VETERAN OF THE WEEK: Ben Burnett

Beaufort’s Ben Burnett, 71, enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in Spartanburg in 1968. After Parris Island, he became a Rifleman/Radioman. He first saw service in Guantanamo and later in Vietnam in the Que Son mountains and valleys where his unit (D Company, 1st Battalion, 7th Marine Division) received multiple awards for near constant combat operations in the field. Recovered from malaria, he left the Marine Corps in 1970 with a full VA disability.
