Three Beaufort High School student-athletes signed National Letters of Intent last week to begin their transition to college student-athletes.

The ceremonies started with Terence Wilson signing to play football at Newberry College, while cross country and track star Marlon Belden signed to run at Georgetown University, and Rhogue Wallace signed to play baseball at Spartanburg Methodist College.

Wilson started on the Eagles’ varsity squad since his sophomore year, battling it out in the trenches. He started his career as an offensive guard, then transitioned to offensive tackle his senior season.

He was a three-time All-Region and emerged as the leader of the offensive line this season, becoming a force throughout this year and leading a powerful Beaufort rushing attack. Wilson plans to pursue a degree in criminal justice at Newberry College while continuing his career.

The speed demon for the Eagles long distance and cross country team Marlon Belden chose to sign to the prestigious Georgetown University. Earlier in his high school career, Belden set numerous records and continually improved his standing among the state’s top runners on both the cross country course and the track.

He currently holds Beaufort High School’s 1600 meter record. His coaches said they have been waiting for this moment since they started coaching Belden as a promising young distance runner. He plans to major in psychology with a pre-med emphasis.

The final signing was Wallace, a dual sport athlete who chose to continue his career on the diamond. Eagles football coach Bryce Lybrand mentioned that Wallace would often travel to weekend baseball tournaments after standing out as a H-back on Friday nights, a sign of his true dedication.

On the baseball team, he is a rock behind the plate who contributes to coach Keith Riley’s squad in numerous ways. He is following in his older brother Rome’s footsteps by continuing his career at Spartanburg Methodist College.
