A newborn puppy received a Christmas gift from Burton Fire District Firefighter/EMTs who helped welcome her into the world Thursday evening, Dec. 21 after the owner rushed to the Burton Fire District’s Shell Point Fire Station on Parris Island Gateway when she showed no signs of life after birth. Burton Firefighter/EMTs Lieutenant John Calcorzi and Fox Millinder received the lifeless puppy and approached her care with the same initial treatments they would for a newborn child. After providing warmth, vigorous stimulation, and a little airway assistance the pup cleared its airway and took its first breath and began to move. The owner immediately named the new puppy Burton.
