The Island Charities 3rd Annual 10K & 5K Race and 5K Walk will be held Saturday, October 20, at 5 p.m. on Cat Island. This year’s beneficiaries are Cat Island Builds for Habitat and, as always, a portion will go to the American Cancer Society in honor of Pamela Beales Wentworth.
There will be a Morgan Dash for children 6 and under. This race is donation only for each entrant and is named after Morgan Porter, a 3-year-old whose family lives in Olde Tabby Park on Cat Island — and now has a new heart. All proceeds from the dash will go towards The Island Charities Scholarship Fund.
Organizer Randy Wentworth said the purpose of the event is to help those who have a need. “We want to do our small part knowing that we have left the world a better place for all, and our race is just a small part of giving back to our community,” said Randy.
There will be music, drinks and a party atmosphere afterward. The race is $30 for 10K, $25 for 5K, and $20 for 5K walk. To register and to find out more about the event, visit www.theislandcharities.com.
