Sports briefs for December 13th

BHS wrestlers beat Colleton

Beaufort High’s wrestling team picked up a region win on the road on Wednesday, Dec. 5, beating Colleton County 46-26.

The Eagles clinched the win with big victories by Michael Cenci (182) and Theo Washington (195).

Beaufort was slated to travel to Hanahan on Tuesday for a double-dual versus the host Hawks and Fort Dorchester.

WB boys earn big win over BHS

Whale Branch’s boys had four players score in double figures in a 66-55 win at Beaufort High on Friday.

JaQuan Watson scored 16 points, Nick Pringle and RaeQuan Brisbane added 15 apiece, and Shawn Chisolm had 10 to lead the Warriors to their second straight win. 

Jamaad Rivers poured in 25 points, Oliver Holmes added 10, and Trae Heyward had nine for the Eagles.

It was the second straight win for the Warriors, who beat visiting Wade Hampton 52-48 on Tuesday. The Eagles lost 60-40 to visiting Ridgeland-Hardeeville on Wednesday.

Whale Branch (2-2) was scheduled to host Hilton Head High on Tuesday, while Beaufort (3-4) was slated to travel to Allendale-Fairfax.

BHS girls win two straight 

Beaufort High’s girls cruised to a 57-24 home win over Whale Branch on Friday. 

Darien Watkins scored 16 points to lead the Eagles, while Brittany Linton added 12 points, Layla Warren had 11, and Lillian Sumner scored nine. 

Two days earlier, the Eagles claimed a 53-42 home win over Ridgeland-Hardeeville. Linton led the Eagles with 19 points, while Warren added 11 and Watkins scored nine.

On Tuesday, the Eagles lost 60-27 at South Effingham (Ga.). 

BHS (5-3) was scheduled to travel to Allendale-Fairfax on Tuesday.

Creek boys get first win

Battery Creek’s boys heated up after halftime and rallied for a 68-61 home win over Hilton Head High on Friday.

The Seahawks got off to a hot start and led 36-20 at halftime, but the Dolphins caught fire after the break to surge to their first win of the season. 

Ja’Quan Burton scored 22 points to lead the Dolphins. 

Battery Creek (1-4) was scheduled to host Bluffton on Tuesday. 

BCHS girls fall to Seahawks

Hilton Head High’s girls knocked off Battery Creek for the first time in four years with a 39-24 road win Friday. 

Starr Reed had five points, 11 rebounds, and six blocks for the Dolphins. Trezure Siplin had six points and seven rebounds, and Noni Singleton scored a game-high nine points.

Battery Creek (1-6) was slated to host Bluffton on Tuesday. 

BA boys blow out Lowcountry Prep

Beaufort Academy’s boys cruised to a 74-24 win at Lowcountry Prep on Tuesday.

Dawson Coleman led the Eagles with 21 points, while Jaylen Reeves added 16 and Elijah Fess had 10.

BA (3-1) was scheduled to host Holy Trinity on Wednesday.

BA girls win big again

Beaufort Academy’s girls posted a dominant win for the second straight night, winning 57-19 at Lowcountry Prep on Tuesday.

Amelia Huebel scored 13 points and Emily Ann Hiers added 11 to lead the Eagles. Shanese Bostick scored nine points, and Ariana Gonzalez added eight.

BA (3-1) hosts Holy Trinity on Wednesday.
