Sheriff’s Office investigating shooting incident on St. Helena Island

The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a shooting incident that left one man injured Friday night.

Just after 9 pm, Sheriff’s deputies responded to a reported gunshot victim at Seaside Farms (1368 Seaside Rd) on St. Helena Island. Upon arrival, deputies made contact with a 42-year old male suffering from a gunshot wound to the torso. The victim advised he had been walking outside the migrant housing area when he was grabbed from behind by an unknown male suspect.

The suspect fired several rounds, one of which struck the victim. Witnesses reported seeing three unknown black males fleeing the area after the shots were fired, however, no further description was available. The victim was transported to Beaufort Memorial Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries, and has since been released. The motive for the shooting remains unknown at this time.
