John Paul II took nine wrestlers to the SCISA individual state tournament on Saturday in Sumter, and the Golden Warriors returned with seven medals — including a trio of runner-up finishes.

Jack Brock (132 pounds), Jonathan Field (152), and Tripp Currier (220) all advanced to the finals before falling in their title bouts to claim state runner-up status among South Carolina’s private schools.

Steven Schidrich (120), Oliver Witkowski (126), Angel Perez (145), and Kohl Woodham (182) also medaled, finishing fourth in their weight classes.

Field finishes his career with three runner-up finishes in 2018, 2020, and 2021. He missed the state tournament as a sophomore due to injury. Woodham is a three-time placer, also finishing fourth in 2019 and 2020, and Schidrich also placed fourth in 2018.

The seven state placers are the second-most in program history for JPII, surpassed only by the eight Golden Warriors who finished in the top four in 2018.
