Senior Softball Beaufort announces Spring 2022 program

From staff reports

Senior Softball Beaufort is recruiting players – men or women, age 55 or older and interested in playing organized softball – for its spring season.

The league, entering its second season, boasts six teams with more than 90 players. The games are played at fields in Hilton Head and Bluffton, but players from all of Beaufort County are invited to play.

“We want players of all abilities and will build teams to foster friendships through fun and healthy competition,” Commissioner and league co-founder Rick Trenary said.

“We’re looking for men and women who love the game of softball. Maybe they hung up their glove, not realizing that a senior league exists in our area,” league co-founder David Hofmann said. “This league gives them a chance to continue to play, with rules adapted to make it safer, while still encouraging friendly competition.”

Each team includes players of all abilities – from tournament caliber to those who just want to have fun, without the beer league atmosphere, Trenary said.

The league, which is organized through Beaufort County Parks and Recreation, will hold conditioning/practice/scrimmages starting on or about Feb. 19, to current players to stay active and new players to meet current players, get a feel for the rules of senior softball and understand how the league is run. Check the group’s website, www.seniorsoftball.com to find a schedule of sessions. Individuals interested in playing need to register at www.seniorsoftballbeaufort.com.

The league is also looking for team sponsors. Sponsorship fees of $750 include the county team fee and uniforms with the sponsor’s name and logo, plus equipment as needed. If you’re a business interested in sponsoring a team, contact Trenary at 843-247-2832
