Sand Sharks women even record

BLUFFTON — USC Beaufort’s women’s basketball team improved its record to 4-4 with a convincing 69-36 victory over New College of Florida on Saturday in The Cove.

The Sand Sharks had four players in double-figures led by junior Shaniya Rose with 14 points. Janiyah Heyward, fresh off her first Peach Belt Conference Player of the Week honor, posted 12 points to go along with five rebounds, while Brielle Bartelt and Taniyah Bowman each added 10 points. Ella Coffey was just one point shy of joining them in double digits, as the freshman finished with nine.

USCB dominated from the start, leading 18-11 after the first quarter, and kept the Mighty Banyans to single digits in the second period. The Sand Sharks outscored NCF 20-10 in the third before coasting to a comfortable victory to close out 2023.

The Sand Sharks break for the holidays before returning on Jan. 3 to open PBC play against Augusta. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. in The Cove.
