Recycle those trees, don’t forget to get your decal

By Mindy Lucas

If your Christmas tree is looking a little less than merry, you might want to consider recycling it.

Beaufort County officials are encouraging residents to bring live Christmas trees to Convenience Centers during normal hours for recycling. Recycling saves valuable landfill space.

Residents interested in recycling should make sure all ornaments, lights and other decorations are removed from the tree before dropping off.

Also, residents should not take trees to the old Lady’s Island location. Doing so will be considered illegal dumping.

For more information on Convenience Center locations and hours call 843-255-2736 or visit www.beaufortcountysc.gov/recycle.

Also, don’t forget – you’ll soon need a decal to enter Convenience Centers in Beaufort County.

Beginning Friday, Jan. 1, decals will be required at all convenience centers.

Started in October, the program was introduced to prevent out-of-county abuse of waste collection locations. Households with decals will be able to visit convenience center locations up to three trips per week.

To apply online visit www.beaufortcountysc.gov/SWRDecal. Applications will also be available at all county convenience centers for Beaufort County residents to complete.
