Pair amazing tapas and sandwiches with fine wines and get ready to Wined It Up

By Pamela Brownstein

The Lunch Bunch was delighted to try the new wine bar that recently opened on Bay Street next to Fordham Market.

The design is sleek and inviting, with a long bar, small tables and interesting art on the walls.

Last Friday afternoon, we were treated to three amazing courses expertly prepared by Chef Tara.

For the first appetizer course, she brought us a platter called Meta’ y Medio, which is the cheese plate and Charcuterie Board combined. We also loved the little plate of goat cheese stuffed dates wrapped in speck.

For the second course, we sampled three of their specialty sandwiches, and they were all excellent. The Italian is packed with genoa salami, Prosciutto de Parma, fresh mozzarella, olive aioli and roasted tomatoes on rosemary olive bread from the Beaufort Bread Company.

The Veggie wrap was also delicious, with hummus, lettuce, tomatoes, onion, artichoke hearts and roasted red peppers, and a surprising kick from jalapeños.

My favorite, and Kim’s too, was the Vermonter which came with smoked ham, Dijon, white cheddar cheese,

apple and red onion on multi-grain bread. The sweet crunch from the apple was a subtle, satisfying touch.

You can also build your own sandwich from a variety of quality breads, meats, cheeses, vegetables and spreads.

The third dessert course was French chocolate ganache “salami” that has spices and nuts and is topped with fresh berries and whipped cream. Talk about fabulous. It was seriously heavenly.

Of course, we all ordered various wines to go with our meal. They have many reds and whites, and my favorite so far was the Basa Verdeho, a Spanish white that is the perfect balance between not too dry and not too sweet.

Wined It Up Wine Bar & Specialty Deli is at 705 Bay Street, Beaufort. It is open seven days a week for lunch from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., and dinner at 5 p.m. Call 843-5585 for take out orders.
