A vigil in memory of those who were killed in the shooting in Orlando, FL will be held in Waterfront Park, downtown Beaufort, at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday evening, June 14. All are welcome. Members of the Welcoming Congregation Committee of the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Beaufort are working with local clergy to organize and lead the 30-minute vigil, which will include singing, prayer, an honoring of those who died, and a call to sow seeds of love and compassion.
“In the midst of such pain and sorrow we are called both to honor our grief and to strengthen together our commitment to lives of love and care,” said UUFB’s minister, the Rev. Kevin Tarsa. “We will gather here in Beaufort, almost one year after the loss of the Mother Emanuel Nine, to remember Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s message that no matter which categories we place ourselves in, “we are tied together in the single garment of destiny…and whatever affects one directly affects all indirectly.”
Participants are invited to bring a flower to the vigil (extras will be available).
