2010: Harriet Keyserling, who, as a champion for women’s issues, represented Beaufort for 16 years state legislature, dies of kidney failure at Beaufort Memorial Hospital at the age of 88. She was elected to Beaufort County Council in 1975. Then from 1977 to 1993, Keyserling spent her time in Columbia focused on energy, nuclear waste, the arts, education, women’s rights and ending the fillibuster in the House. She was the mother of longtime Beaufort Mayor Billy Keyserling.

2022: Scott Marshall is announced as the Beaufort City Council’s selection to replace Bill Prokop, set to retire as City Manager in January 2023.
