Lucille Bass Lipsitz passed away on December 26, 2023 in Bluffton, SC at the age of 93. Lucille was born on June 1, 1930 in Lowell, MA to the late Nathan and Esther Bass. The family soon moved to North, SC. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Lipsitz, her siblings: Herbert Bass, Samuel Bass, Ruth Jacobs and Frances Ginsburg. Lucille graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from Winthrop College and a Master’s degree in Social Work from University of South Carolina. She loved baking, bingo and visiting with customers, both old and new at Lipsitz Department Store, where she worked alongside her husband for 49 years. Lucille was an active member of the American Association of University Women, the Business and Professional Women, and Beth Israel Ladies Auxiliary, as well as quietly helping out people in need without letting it be known to others. For her 84th birthday she fulfilled one of her dreams as she went skydiving in Walterboro. For her 85th birthday she rode on the back of a Harley Davidson motorcycle. She is survived by her children: Sandra Mendel (Rick) of Columbia, SC, Barry Lipsitz (Lucia) of Cornelia, GA, Neil Lipsitz (Michele) of Beaufort, SC and Judy Thornberry (David) of Palm Bay, FL, five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Her siblings, Jack Bass of Raleigh, NC, Marcia Brody of Cheltenham, PA and good friend Norma Duncan of Beaufort, SC. Graveside services will be held on Thursday, December 28, 2023 at 12:00 noon at Beth Israel Cemetery on Bladen Street. Rabbi Bradley Bloom is officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to: Beth Israel Synagogue, Alzheimer’s Services of Beaufort, Crescent Hospice of Beaufort or a charity of your choice.
