PURITA R. WOLFE

(a.k.a. Miss Rita)

“We try to treat everyone like family and everyone becomes family,” Rita Wolfe told The Island News in February.

A whole lot of people in Beaufort – and the Philippines – lost a family member last week.

Purita R. Wolfe, 64, of Beaufort and wife of Mark Wolfe, died Friday, Dec. 11, 2020 at Beaufort Memorial Hospital.

Purita was born in Marikina, Philippines and was the daughter of Milagros Reyes Santos and the late Isaac Santos. She was co-owner, with her husband, of the Fillin’ Station, Lady’s Island, for 22 years before selling the business earlier this year.

Rita Wolfe could be seen six days a week working with her husband behind the bar and in the kitchen at the Fillin’ Station. On special occasions, she would hand make lumpia egg rolls, usually for free, for the crowd.

Every year, the couple would return to Rita’s hometown and take enough food to feed 100 Families. They handed out bags of food and supplies to the poorest people they could find so, as Rita said, “At least for one day they could eat good.”

Burial will be held at a later date at Loyola Memorial Park, Marikina, Philippines.
