Paul Sommerville to speak to LIBPA

Paul Sommerville, who is the Chairman of Beaufort County Council and District 2 representative, will be the guest speaker at the Tuesday, November 12 meeting of the Lady’s Island Business and Professional Association which will be held at 8 a.m. in the Beaufort Realtors Association Headquarters located in the Palmetto Business Park (behind BB&T Bank) on Lady’s Island Drive. The meeting is open to the public.

Councilman Sommerville has been requested to include in his discussion with our members the following subjects.

• What will be the long term impact of approval of the new Lady’s Island Airport Master Plan?

• What are the factors involved in the county developing its own landfill?

• Should Beaufort County Council consider reducing taxes similar to the action taken by the school board?

• Have county business licenses evolved into a negative influence on the growth of businesses?

Port Royal man arrested on drug charges

On October 29, members of the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office Drug Investigations Section arrested Terry Welborn on drug charges.

Drug investigators received information over the past year in reference to a subject by the name of Terry selling scheduled drugs from a residence in Port Royal. Investigators were able to identify the subject as Terry Welborn, residing at 116-A Tamara Lane in Port Royal.

When the search warrant was executed, quantities of various pills and crack cocaine were seized, as well as $25,000 in cash.
