County offering free electronics recycling

The Beaufort County Public Works Department Solid Waste and Recycling Section will host two free electronics events for county residents. The events will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 8,  at the Beaufort County Public Works locations at 9 Benton Field Road in Bluffton and 140 Shanklin Road in Beaufort.

The event is open to all county residents, and any personal computers, laptops, CRT monitors, LCD monitors, CRT televisions, non-CRT televisions, printers, hard drives and miscellaneous electronics (microwaves, cell phones, radios, fax machines, and typewriters) will be accepted.

Rogue Rescue holding fundraising raffle

Rogue Rescue and Sanctuary animal shelter in Bluffton is holding a fundraiser raffle for a donated private flight for up to four people from Beaufort to St. Simons Island, Ga., a barbecue lunch and the return flight. There are no blackout dates, and scheduling is flexible if weather does not permit. Dr. Keith Guest is the owner of the plane and pilot.

Tickets are $25 and can be purchased at Hemmingways in Beaufort or via paypal at roguerescueandsanctuary@gmail.com with a mailing address so a ticket can be mailed to them.

The drawing will be held Feb. 8 at the Petco in Bluffton. You need not be present to win. Contact Renee Bishop at 803-671-1604 for more information.

Beaufort Aviation Association elects officers

At its annual meeting recently, the Beaufort Aviation Association elected its officers for the next two years. The group elected Jean Sulc as Secretary, Kevin McGuire as Treasurer, Jaden Vazquez as Vice President and James Atkins as President.

The BAA is committed to recruiting new pilots and improving the economic contribution to the community of Beaufort’s airport. Among the group’s accomplishments of the last two years were conducting two Aviation Career Days with more than 250 attending in 2019; funding the installation of a security gate near the hangars; flying for free more than 100 local children and adults; and helping change the airport’s name to Beaufort Executive Airport.
