Newpoint Community closes to trick-or-treaters due to COVID-19

The Newpoint Community on Lady’s Island will be closed to non-residents for house-to-house trick-or-treating this Halloween, according to a news release from the neighborhood’s home owners’ association.

The community, which receives hundreds of trick-or-treaters from surrounding areas each year, has had to cancel the Halloween tradition due to concerns related to COVID-19.

“We hate that we had to come to this decision,” said Newpoint HOA president Larry White. “The tradition of Halloween in Newpoint is very special, lots of fun for our residents as well as the kids. We will miss the throngs of trick-or-treaters and the excitement, but after looking at CDC guidance and other information, the HOA board felt that for health and safety reasons we needed to take this step.”
