Marion Lenair Woods

Marion Lenair Woods, 88, husband of Belva Jo “BJ” Saleeby Woods, of Beaufort, SC, died Sunday, February 18, 2024 after a battle with cancer. Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 23, 2024 at 11:00am in The Baptist Church of Beaufort.

Lenair was born on June 3, 1935 in Grays Hill, SC. He is the son of the late Jacob Eldridge Woods and Ethel Sloman Woods. Lenair was a member of the Baptist Church of Beaufort for 77 years.  He found many ways to serve that included teaching Sunday School, being a deacon, homebound visitor, and a member of the Handicap Ramp Building Team. After 35 years of service, Lenair retired from Civil Service at Parris Island in 2001. One of his greatest achievements during his years at Parris Island was the General’s Commendation for his help in building the Crucible. He was one of 6 civilians who were hand-picked for this project.

Lenair was a coach, gardener, outdoorsman, woodworker, and avid Clemson Tigers fan! He was also a perfectionist who when he coached, planted rows of vegetables, or built something, it was done with precision and to the highest standard.

Surviving is his wife of 57 years, BJ, one daughter, Cynthia Lynn “Cindy” Woods; and two sisters, Joyce Woods and Gayle Carroll. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Sue Burns, and brothers Eugene, Ficklin, Clyde and Tommy Woods.

The family suggests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to The Baptist Church of Beaufort, P. O. Box 879, Beaufort, SC 29901 or Friends of Caroline Hospice, 329 Friends Lane, Ridgeland, SC  29936.

Anderson Funeral Home and Crematory is serving the family.
