Local nonprofit has surplus medical supplies and equipment

By Mindy Lucas

The Lending Room, an all-volunteer, locally based nonprofit, is trying to get the word out about a surplus of gently used medical equipment.

Founded in 1961, The Lending Room works to supply patients who need home medical equipment with the items they need and also accepts donations.

Medical supplies began stacking up after The Lending Room closed in March due to Covid-19, but the organization and its storage facility have recently re-opened, though with new safety protocols in place such as the wearing of masks.

The group currently has crutches, orthopedic boots and braces, bed pads, knee scooters and many other items and, in particular, has a high volume of wheelchairs, bedside commodes or toilet chairs and walkers.

If you or someone is in need of one of these items, contact The Lending Room at 843-524-2554. Those accepting the equipment are only required to pay $1 upon pick up, which covers the release of the item as is.

The facility has regular hours, but volunteers advise calling first to make sure they are there or can accommodate requests. For more information, visit www.lendingroombeaufort.com.
