Nothing taller than a coconut tree
Having read Dick Stewart’s long letter in last week’s Island News, it reminded me of the building code we encountered on the island of Aitutaki. Like Beaufort, locals know who owns and has owned each piece of land for the last 13 generations. Anyone who wants to build must seek permission through consensus from the community with one caveat. Nothing can be built taller than a coconut tree.
Maybe that should be the standard in Beaufort?
