Leaplings!

Things were happening in leaps and bounds last Thursday at Beaufort Memorial Hospital’s Collins Birthing Center, where the staff welcomed five little “leaplings” born on Leap Day, February 29. From left to right: Baby boy Caleb Polanco of Bluffton, born at 6:20 p.m. and weighed in at 6 pounds, 3 ounces; Baby boy Liam Vallas of Hardeeville, born at 12:10 p.m. and weighed in at 8 pounds, 1 ounce; Baby girl Laiyani Deaver of Beaufort, born at 8:28 p.m. and weighed in at 5 pounds, 3 ounces; Baby girl Marcela Valeria of Hilton Head Island, born at 6:51 p.m. and weighed in at 6 pounds, 14 ounces; Baby girl Ximena Castulo of Beaufort, born at 3:43 a.m. and weighed in at 8 pounds, 1 ounce.

The babies will celebrate their first leap year birthdays on February 29, 2028. A special thank you to Sabrina Cooler, OB unit secretary, and Donna Mixon, LPN, who made adorable “leap frog” bonnets and rattles to send home with the leap-year babies.
