Nathan Tran, an 8th grader at Lady’s Island Middle School, has been named to the Top 300 MASTERS in the Broadcom MASTERS National Middle School Science Competition.
The Broadcom MASTERS is a program of the Society for Science & the Public, which seeks to inspire young scientists, engineers and innovators to solve the grand challenges of the 21st Century.
Tran was selected from a pool of more than 2,300 applicants from 47 states, Washington D.C., and two U.S. territories, and was the only winner from South Carolina.
His project, “What Type of Plastic Do Mealworms Consume the Most of?” tackled the global problem of plastics, in particular, single-use plastics and presented a possible solution for their decomposition.
