House fire under investigation

From staff reports

Burton firefighters responded to a house fire Sunday that is now under investigation, according to a news release from the Burton Fire District.

Just past 9:30 p.m., the Burton Fire District, MCAS Fire Department, and Beaufort County EMS responded to a reported house fire on Bay Pines Road in Burton.

As firefighters arrived, they saw a small fire underneath a single-wide mobile home. As firefighters approached the home, they saw active fire inside. Firefighters quickly forced entry into the unoccupied residence and extinguished a fire in living room area, confining the fire to a central location.

While fire damage was limited, there was smoke damage throughout the home, which was unoccupied and being renovated at the time. No injuries were reported.

Burton fire investigators requested the assistance of the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office in investigating the cause of the fire, and they are now leading the investigation.

This is the first house fire for the Burton Fire District in 2022.
