Beaufort High girls lacrosse picked up a key road win Thursday, winning 13-9 at James Island.
The Eagles jumped out to an early lead on the first of Annabelle Hooper’s five goals and never trailed, leading 7-6 at halftime before locking down on defense in the second half.
Five different players scored for Beaufort, with Sophia Pellegrino and Amyah Todd each scoring a hat trick to supplement Hooper’s quintet. Abby Baise and Lillian Carr each added one goal.
Seniors Lilly Dangerfield and Sydney Lashley anchored the Eagles’ defense, which made key adjustments and halftime and held the Trojans to three goals after the break. Morgan Wright earned the win in goal with 10 saves against 18 shots, and Shelby Holstein came in and sealed the win with two saves on three shots.
The Eagles dropped a heartbreaker at home Monday against May River, falling 12-11 in double overtime. The Sharks took a 6-4 edge into halftime, but Beaufort battled back thanks to several draw controls from Nevaeh Wiggins to turn the tide. The Eagles scored seven goals in the second half to force overtime before May River found the golden goal in the second extra period to pull out the win.
Amyah Todd and Annabelle Hooper excelled for the Eagles, scoring a game-high four goals each while Todd scooped up 12 ground balls. Talia Moultrie played superb defense for Beaufort, and Shelby Holstein made 14 saves on 23 shots in relief.
