Historic Paige Point Cemetery rededication set for Thursday

The historic Paige Point Cemetery will be the site of a rededication ceremony and monument unveiling at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 24. The cemetery is located at 669B Paige Point Road in Seabrook.

The public is invited.

Upon discovering the cemetery desecrated in the fall of 2016, Retired Major General Mitch Mitchell notified Council Member Gerald Dawson. Together they worked with former Beaufort County Administrator Gary Kubic to secure funding to protect, preserve and restore the cemetery.

Scheduled speakers at the rededication ceremony will include Beaufort County Administrator Ashley Jacobs, former County Administrator Gary Kubic, Council Member Gerald Dawson, Penn Center Executive Administrator Emeritus, Mr. Emory Campbell, Gullah Scholar & Master Story Teller Ms. Anita Singleton-Prather (Aunt Pearlie Sue) and Community member Mr. Jimmy Lawrence.

The program will culminate with the unveiling of the historic marker and Sankofa Monument.
