Golden Warriors shake off rust with win over HHCA

John Paul II’s boys returned to action for the first time in 15 days with a 43-36 region win over Hilton Head Christian Academy on Saturday at Island Recreation Center.

The Golden Warriors spoiled the Eagles’ debut on their temporary home court with a dominant defensive effort. 

Jeremiah Young had a team-high 11 points to go with five rebounds and three steals for JPII, while Malone Kinard-Huisinger added 10 points and eight rebounds in his return from injury, and Austin McIntosh chipped in with nine points and six rebounds. 

JP Peduzzi scored nine points, and Isaiah Anderson added eight to lead the Eagles.

JPII extended its winning streak with a 44-38 win at Beaufort Academy on Tuesday. The Golden Warriors (8-2, 3-1) host first-place Bethesda Academy on Friday.

JPII girls avenge another early-season defeat

John Paul II’s girls finally took the court after a week of postponements with a popup game Friday at Habersham School in Savannah, and the Golden Warriors avenged an earlier home loss with a 36-29 victory.

After the Golden Warriors opened up an eight-point first-half lead, the Patriots started to turn up the heat surged ahead by three toward the end of the third quarter. JPII was able to recover and regain control to secure their win. 

Maddie Heathcott was just short of another double-double with nine points and 11 rebounds along with four steals and two blocks. Bella Termini also contributed nine for the Golden Warriors, as well as six boards and five steals. Taylor Michael put up seven points and two steals, Cayce Graves added six poitns, seven rebounds, and two steals, and Brady Mahoney had seven deflections and two steals in a strong all-around defensive effort by JPII.

Caroline Gilmour returned from an injury for JPII and recorded three points and seven rebounds in her first action since Dec. 8.

JPII ran into a powerhouse Hilton Head Christian Academy team Saturday, falling 55-15 at Island Recreation Center. Graves had four points, five rebounds, and two steals, and Michael added five points and three boards for JPII.
