Friends of Port Royal Cypress Wetlands announce new video series

From staff reports

The Friends of Port Royal Cypress Wetlands, in conjunction with the Town of Port Royal, are pleased to announce the production of the Rookery Roots Video Series – Discover and Learn the Treasures of the Cypress Wetlands With Host Dr. Chris Marsh. This sequence of short videos begins with four episodes filmed on location at the Rookery in Port Royal.

Chris Marsh, the Executive Director of the LowCountry Institute Spring Island Trust since 1998 completed his B.S. in Zoology from N.C. State University and completed a PhD in Zoology from Oregon State. He went on to be a biology professor at Coastal Carolina University where he taught ornithology, ecology and animal behavior until he moved to Port Royal.

He coordinates the management and education programs for both the Spring Island Trust and LowCountry Institute. Marsh was one of the originators in creating the Cypress Wetlands.

The first episode of Rookery Roots is “Welcome to the Rookery!” where Marsh will introduce us to the Cypress Wetlands and explain its history in becoming an attraction for many and their appreciation of wildlife.

Future videos will include “Life in the Wetlands” and others will follow.

Filmed beautifully on location at the Wetlands by SK Designs owner Shawn Hill, this is a can’t miss series for all to enjoy while learning about the wetlands and the Low Country wildlife that inhabits there. Watch through the Port Royal website or the Friends of Port Royal Cypress Wetland Facebook Page for future schedules.
