Former Battery Creek High School Athletic Director and Head Girls Basketball Coach Sarah Hayes, currently the Associate Commissioner of the South Carolina High School League (SCHSL), has been selected for the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) Basketball Rules Committee.
Hayes’ four-year appointment is effective Thursday Aug. 1, 2024.
The NFHS Basketball Rules Committee reviews existing rules and considers proposed changes for high school basketball nationwide.
Hayes, who has been with the SCHSL since January 2023, oversees several sports, including swimming, basketball, and lacrosse. She also serves as the liaison between the League and sports officials.
“It is an honor to be selected as a member of the NFHS Basketball Rules Committee,” Hayes said in a SCHSL news release. “As someone who has loved, played, and worked in various capacities of the sport throughout my life, I am excited to have the opportunity to serve at the national level.”
Hayes continued, “I look forward to the future of basketball at the interscholastic level.”
“This committee is a perfect fit for Associate Commissioner Hayes since she is our liaison for officials,” SCHSL Commissioner Jerome Singleton said in a news release. “She has done a great job in helping increase the number of game officials used by the League’s member schools, and she will be an asset to this committee.”
Hayes was at Battery Creek for almost 10 years. Athletic Director until leaving for the SCHSL in January 2023, Hayes was the Head Girls Basketball Coach from August 2013 until her promotion to AD in June 2019.
