Beaufort High boys tennis completed a perfect run through Region 7-4A play with a 5-1 home win over May River on Monday, clinching the region’s top seed in the Class 4A playoffs.
Beaufort’s Graeme Angus and May River’s Said Hernandez won three-set thrillers in the top two singles matches, but the Eagles swept the remaining courts in straight sets.
Diego Alvarez, Bodie Daniel, and Griffin Stone won singles matches for Beaufort, and Joseph Combs and Witt Compton teamed up to sweep their doubles contest.
Beaufort gave some of its top players a day off from the busy slate this week but still came away with a 5-1 win at Colleton County on Thursday.
Beaufort coach Dave Riedmayer gave Angus the day off, and the Cougars took advantage, as Adam Buckner earned Colleton’s only win at No. 1 singles. The rest of the Eagles’ lineup dominated, though, as Stone, Combs, Compton, and Walker Perryman all swept to straight-sets wins, and Casey Hoogenboom and Charlie Bowden easily won their doubles match.
The Eagles (12-2, 12-0) will open the playoffs at home May 4.
