Eagles bow out of tennis, softball playoffs

The season came to an end for Beaufort High’s tennis and softball teams this week, capping off exceptional campaigns for both programs.

Veteran coach Dave Riedmayer’s tennis team reached the Class 4A Lower State finals for the second straight year but were denied back-to-back trips to the championship match with a 6-0 loss at Myrtle Beach.

Coach Scott Rast’s softball squad finished up with an 11-8-1 record after running into a buzzsaw in the district tournament and losing twice to Midland Valley, but the Eagles eked out a tough 4-3 road win at Bluffton in the postseason and return a solid core including star Kylie Rast, who enjoyed a breakout season at the plate and in the circle.
