Dolphins split doubleheader

Battery Creek split a high school baseball doubleheader with Tamaqua, a team from Pennsylvania, last Saturday.

In the first game, visiting Tamaqua pulled away to best Battery Creek 12-1. The Dolphins, however, battled back to win the nightcap, edging Tamaqua 5-4 in the final game of the twinbill. With the win in the second game, Battery Creek improved to 2-4.

Tamaqua 12, Battery Creek 1: Battery Creek struggled offensively throughout the opening game of the doubleheader versus Tamaqua as the visiting team from Pennsylvania pulled away to 12-1.

Clyde Parker and Craig Capano each had one hit for Battery Creek in the loss. Parker scored Battery Creek’s lone run and Capano delivered the Dolphins’ only RBI.

Battery Creek 5, Tamaqua 4: Battery Creek starting pitcher Zach Mahan tossed a complete game and earned the win in the second game. The productive Mahan allowed only two earned runs on seven hits.

Reliable Beaufort batter Clyde Parker accounted for the game-winning hit. Helping his cause at the plate, Mahan went 2-for-3 with two doubles. Mahan was one of three Battery Creek batters to turn in multi-hit games. The second game’s most consistent hitter, Henry Schubert was 3-for-4 for the Dolphins. Craig Capano finished 2-for-3 with a double in Battery Creek’s hard-fought win.
