Disaster avoided in pickup truck fire at gas station

Burton firefighters extinguished a vehicle fire at a gas station Friday morning, April 26, without the fire spreading or anyone suffering injuries.

Just past 8 a.m. today, Burton firefighters were dispatched to a vehicle fire at the Enmarket gas station on Trask Parkway near MCAS Beaufort. Firefighters arrived on scene to find smoke and flames coming from the engine compartment of a pickup truck with an attached trailer. The flames were rapidly spreading into the occupant compartment.

While refueling, the driver noticed smoke coming from his vehicle and immediately backed his vehicle away from the pumps.

Burton firefighters quickly extinguished the fire without further incident or injury.
