Delicious ingredients create irresistible sushi combinations at Sushi Sakana

By Pamela Brownstein

Even though there were only three of us at Lunch Bunch, we were hungry and managed to eat almost all of the amazing food that was presented to us by the lovely owner, Monica.

We started with the new crab and vegetable tempura, which was light and had a good texture. Then we tried the Diablo roll made with crab, masago and special sauce and baked. Buck really liked the spicy kick of this roll.

As a treat, Monica prepared an authentic Korean dish called Bi Bim Bab with beef, shredded vegetables, spinach, radish, mushrooms and topped with a fried egg and served over rice in a hot rock pot. All the ingredients are combined for a yummy meal that will comfort you and fill you up.

Buck’s favorite roll was the Lowcountry Roll made with crab and shrimp tempuras, avocado, special homemade sauce, covered with cheese and wrapped in foil and served warm as flambé at the table. The baked cheese gives the roll a smoky flavor that will linger in your mouth and delight your senses.

topped with red snapper and a red chili sauce. The sweetness of the sauce and the crunch of the tempura gave this roll a light, fresh taste. Her second favorite was the awesome Spicy Salmon Tempura Roll.

I really liked the Chelsea Roll made with spicy tuna and avocado, as well as the James Roll — spicy salmon and topped with an intricate foam that included salmon sashimi and applesauce and was perfection with each bite.

I don’t know how we had room for dessert, but it was hard to pass up fried green tea ice cream and a beautiful plate of fried bananas with whipped cream and a chocolate sauce drizzle. Pair
