The big winner at Bridges Preparatory School’s 8th Annual Block Party – Shrimp & Grits Cook-Off, by vote of the people, was Chef Curtis Epps with Albergotti Grill in the Holiday Inn Hotel on Boundary Street.

“It was a fantastic evening with beautiful weather that not only included delicious shrimp and grits prepared by local chefs but also great music by Mike Ponder and the Steel Rail Express at the beautiful Community Beer Garden in Port Royal,” said Kimberly Gardner of the Bridges Preparatory School PTO, which organized the event.

“On behalf of Albergotti Grill, we are thankful for the first-place award, but more importantly, we are glad we could help Bridges Preparatory School,” Chef Curtis Epps said.

The Block Party – Shrimp and Grits Cook-off is a key fundraising event for the Beaufort charter school in Beaufort. Bridges Prep serves grades K-12. As a state charter school, the school is open to all students in the Lowcountry without tuition.

Bridges Prep follows the Paideia principles of education: All children can learn and therefore they all deserve the same quality of schooling, not just the same quantity.

“Putting this event together took our PTO volunteers determination and time but it really came together in a fantastic event for all who came out and supported our wonderful school,” said Tom Angelo, chair of the Bridges Board of Directors.
