State of Region luncheon scheduled for Nov. 10

The annual state of the region luncheon, hosted by the Hilton Head Island-Bluffton Chamber of Commerce, will be held Thursday, Nov. 10. There will be networking starting at 11:15 a.m., with the luncheon at noon.

Attendees will get a debriefing on what the 2016 election will mean to businesses and the region at the 21st Annual State of the Region luncheon.

The keynote speaker will be Bakari Sellers, CNN analyst and contributor and former South Carolina representative. Following his keynote address, presentations will be made by Bluffton Mayor Lisa Sulka, Hilton Head Island Mayor David Bennett and Beaufort County Council Chairman Paul Sommerville.

The cost is $40 for members, $50 for future members and $400 for a table of 10.

Meet the candidates at Bluffton chamber

The South Carolina Chamber of Commerce and the Greater Bluffton Chamber of Commerce will hold a Meet the Candidates & Grassroots Discussion Coffee Networking event from 8-10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 1, at the Greater Bluffton Chamber of Commerce Office, 217 Goethe Road.

Members of the South Carolina Chamber of Commerce and the Greater Bluffton Chamber of Commerce are already preparing for a successful 2017 legislative session to continue the mission to improve South Carolina’s business climate and global competitiveness.

The meeting is one of the first steps in creating the “Competitiveness Agenda,” the business community’s annual list of legislative priorities compiled by the SC Chamber.

Overtime rules focus of chamber event

The Beaufort Regional Chamber of Commerce will host a Business for Breakfast event from 8-9:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 2, at the Best Western Sea Island Inn at 1015 Bay St. in Beaufort.

The featured topic will be the new overtime rule taking effect on Dec. 1.

According to the Department of Labor (DOL), 11 million employees will be impacted by the new overtime rule. Employers will need to analyze employee classifications and make necessary salary adjustments. Diedri Garrett, of WebsterRogers LLP, will be the featured speaker at the breakfast event.

Conversation, cocktails to be held Oct. 27

The Hilton Head Island-Bluffton Chamber of Commerce will hold a Conversation & Cocktails Oyster Roast from 5:30-7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 27, at the Old Oyster Factory at 101 Marshland Road on Hilton Head.

Enjoy beautiful Broad Creek at sunset and casual networking, complimentary hors d’oeuvres, beer and wine. The Old Oyster Factory is asking attendees to bring a food donation to help replenish the Deep Well food bank.

Beaufort chamber holds Friday After Five

The Beaufort Regional Chamber of Commerce will hold Friday after Five from 5-6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 4. This monthly event in downtown Beaufort features live street music and shopping at local businesses.

Chamber to host disaster experts

If you or your employees were unemployed, had hours reduced or lost income as a direct result of Hurricane Matthew, you may be eligible for benefits.

The Hilton Head Island-Bluffton Chamber of Commerce will host Disaster Assistance Professionals from the South Carolina Department of Employment and Workforce (DEW) from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 27, at 1 Chamber of Commerce Drive, Hilton Head, to answer questions, determine eligibility and begin the filing process.
