The Jerry Bruns Show continued this weekend as the brisk, windy conditions were not enough to cool off the Beaufort High sophomore, who continued his hot start to the high school boys golf season by claiming low medalist honors in a four-team match Saturday at Dolphin Head Golf Club on Hilton Head Island.
Bruns shot even-par 72 at the Gary Player track to earn his second individual title of the young season, finishing three shots clear of Hilton Head High’s Nolan Hawkins.
Coach Rawn Grant and Seahawks won the team title with a team total of 315. Hawkins led the Seahawks with a three-over 75, followed by Ben Batson’s 78. To round out their top four scores, Hilton Head High took two of the three 81s carded by Garret Fader, Michael Gavin, and Jackson Crouch.
Beaufort finished second with a team total 332. Eagles freshman Simon McAlister signed an 83 total to partner up with Bruns’ impressive 72. James Island High School finished third with a total of 342 and Bluffton High School rounded out the match with a team total of 375.
Bluffton sophomore Jones Saylor continued his strong play this season with a steady 7-over 79 in the cold winds. James Island’s top player, Connor Heyboer, turned in a 77, good enough for third lowest on the day.
