Body found in Shell Point

Human remains were discovered in a wooded area off Broad River Driver in the Shell Point community, Monday evening, April 11.

According to a report by the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office, the remains were in an advanced state of decomposition. The identity of the deceased individual has not been released, and a cause of death has not been determined.

A forensic autopsy will be conducted by the Medical University of South Carolina to aid in the determination in the manner of death.

The discovery of the body in close proximity to a marsh occurred at approximately 6 p.m. Residents of the area were advised to expect an increased law enforcement presence for several hours.
