Bluffton 5-year-old dies after accident at Christmas parade

Bluffton Police are investigating the death of a 5-year-old in a tragic accident that occurred at the town’s annual Christmas parade on Saturday, Dec. 7.

Ameer Frazier, a kindergartner at Michael C. Riley Elementary School, died in an accident involving a parade float at a debarking area.

Police did not have any other details on the incident as of Monday, Dec. 9, but are speaking with witnesses to find out exactly how the accident occurred, a news release issued by the department stated.

No charges are expected to be filed, the release also stated.

Many in the Bluffton community have reached out to take meals to the family, and to ask how they can be of help, according to various posts on social media.

Ameer’s aunt, Carletha Frazier Singleton, also posted a statement on behalf of the Ford and Frazier families:

“… Yesterday our family endured a great loss and (an) unimaginable loss. Our sweet angel Ameer Frazier took flight to be in heaven. We as a combined family both the Ford and Frazier Families want to thank everyone for the calls, texts and messages of concern and heartfelt condolences. We ask that you continue to pray for us during this extremely difficult time.”

Bluffton Police Chief Chris Chapmond also said, “Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of Ameer and to those who witnessed the accident. This is an accident that can only be described as tragic and unimaginable.”

School counselors were on hand at Bluffton area schools to assist students and staff on Monday.
