Bluffton’s girls came in second behind James Island, and May River’s Anya Arroyo was the individual runner-up at the Region 7-4A cross country meet Wednesday at Habersham.
Led by individual champ Hannah Vroon, who sped around the 5K course in 17:55, James Island raced to the team title with a score of 40 points, holding off the Bobcats (56) and Sharks (64).
Arroyo was across the line second in 18:33, followed by Beaufort High’s Charlize Antia (19:21).
The Bobcats boasted four of the next eight finishers with freshman Ava Gerschutz (20:04) leading the way in fifth. Seventh-grader Aubrey Sampson (20:33) was ninth, while Penelope Roman (20:43) and Kaitlyn McDonagh (20:47) rounded out the top 12 to lead Bluffton to the runner-up finish.
May River’s Caroline Stickler (20:17) and Victoria Sosa (20:27) finished seventh and eighth, and Beaufort’s Anna Brown (20:43) finished 10th.
