Beaufort Twilight Run canceled for second year

From staff reports

Organizers of the annual Beaufort Twilight Run (BTR) announced Monday the 2021 event has been canceled for the second year in a row because of continuing Covid-19 concerns.

According to a news release, the BTR Organizing Committee worked through various options for conducting the fundraising event for Riverview Charter School, but in discussions with school leadership and Habersham Properties, where the event takes place each year, it was decided that canceling the activities surrounding the race, scheduled for March 20, was in the best interest of all.

“While we will miss seeing everyone this March, we hope that you will use this time to be active, stay in shape, enjoy the outside, and get ready for an awesome BTR in 2022,” Race Director Lauren Kelly said in the news release. “We hope to be back better than ever and ready to welcome you to Beaufort’s largest running festival!“

BTR co-chair Jeff Althoff said, “We can’t wait to come back in 2022 with a super fun community event.”

Althoff also noted, “this is a financial stress on the county’s first charter school, having had to cancel the event last March, as well, when the Coronavirus started shutting down activities across the country. I encourage individuals who had planned to join in the festivities this year to consider donating their anticipated entry fee to Riverview.”

The BTR is the school’s biggest fundraiser, and revenues support numerous programs integral to student success such as technology, field experiences, after-school opportunities and more.

The 2022 Beaufort Twilight Run has been scheduled for March 19 next year in Habersham.
