Beaufort man arrested in carjacking incident

A Beaufort man wanted in connection with a carjacking on Shanklin Road in April, has been apprehended, officials say.

Jonas Washington Jr., 22, was found at a home on Coinbow Loop, near Parris Island Gateway, in Burton, on Wednesday, April 28, after a bloodhound team led deputies with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office to the home.

Deputies had been searching for Washington in the area earlier in the day, according to a news release issued by the sheriff’s office. He was wanted in connection to a carjacking incident that occurred on April 22, the release stated.

Washington was arrested on charges of first degree burglary, kidnapping and grand larceny and was taken to the Beaufort County Detention Center.
