Beaufort garbage service running late Tuesday due to high heat, mechanical breakdowns

wastepro-logoHeat indexes close to 100 degrees coupled with mechanical breakdowns slowed Tuesday’s Waste Pro trash collection in parts of Beaufort, but routes were expected to be completed later in the evening, city leaders saidTuesday afternoon.

Any garbage that was supposed to have been picked up on a Tuesday route – and still on the curbside — will be collected first thing Wednesday morning, according to Isiah Smalls, director of public works and facilities management for Beaufort.

“The Waste Pro crews are going to work late into tonight trying to catch up,” Smalls said. “They had some mechanical breakdowns and the crews had to take precautions because of the high heat index. We are all working together, as quickly as possible, to catch up with the scheduled routes for today and Wednesday.”

Any Beaufort resident whose trash was scheduled for collection Tuesday but wasn’t picked up should contact Waste Pro at 645-4100 or the City of Beaufort Public Works at 525-7054 ext #1.

Another option is to go online at www.cityofbeaufort.org, click on Departments, go to Public Works/Sanitation and then click on Request Service.
