Beaufort County Sheriff’s deputy arrested, charged with DUI

From staff reports

Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office Corporal Todd Ferguson was arrested Sunday, Nov. 15 and charged with Driving Under the Influence.

At approximately 11 a.m. Sunday, following calls to Sheriff’s Office Dispatch of a Toyota pickup truck being driven recklessly, deputies located and conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle near the intersection Broad River Road and Parris Island Gateway in Burton, according to a BCSO release.

When they approached the vehicle, deputies identified the driver as Ferguson, an off-duty Sheriff’s Office Corporal. Deputies then requested that South Carolina Highway Patrol troopers respond and assume the investigation, as they suspected Ferguson may have been driving under the influence of alcohol.

When troopers arrived at the traffic stop, they administered a field sobriety test to Ferguson. Following the field sobriety test, troopers arrested Ferguson for Driving Under the Influence and transported him to the Beaufort County Detention Center, where he was incarcerated.

Ferguson was released from the Detention Center following a bond hearing Monday morning. Disciplinary action regarding his employment at the Sheriff’s Office is pending.
