BA’s Vaigneur named player of year

Hilton Head Prep’s Amber Swisher was named the Coach of the Year and Beaufort Academy’s Chase Vaigneur was picked as the Player of the Year to headline the SCISA Region 4 all-region volleyball team.

Swisher led the Dolphins to a 12-7-2 overall record and a 6-4 finish in region play, and HHP closed out the season with a win over region champion Colleton Prep on Wednesday. The Dolphins are the only Class 3A team in the combined region, though, and they did not qualify for the SCISA Class 3A state tournament.

Vaigneur leads BA into the Class 2A state tournament along with first-team all-region pick Mary Hanna Hiers. The Eagles will open the double-elimination tournament against Carolina Academy at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Myrtle Beach.

Hilton Head Christian Academy’s Abby Peduzzi and Kate Booth also were named to the first team, and they will lead the Eagles against Lee Academy in Saturday’s first round.

Hilton Head Prep’s Madison Denny and Haylee Hopman and Colleton Prep’s Weslin Jones rounded out the first team.
