BA pulls away from HHP with big 3rd quarter

Beaufort Academy scored 28 points in the third quarter to pull away for a 49-28 home win over Hilton Head Prep on Friday.

The Dolphins kept it close in the first half and trailed just 14-7 at halftime before BA’s powerful ground game got on track in the second half.

Ja’Sean Lawson rushed for 114 yards and three touchdowns on 15 carries, and Carlos Jones added 140 yards and two TDs on just nine carries to power the Eagles to a 2-0 start in region play.

Jaxen Porter added 36 yards and a touchdown, and Elijah Fess had a big night on both sides of the ball, rushing for a 58-yard TD and collecting four tackles, a sack, and a fumble recovery on defense. Braydon Dineen also played well on both sides for BA, going 5-for-7 for 54 yards and adding five tackles, and Devonte Green made six tackles.

Tommy Stauffer rushed for 101 yards on six carries and caught a touchdown pass for HHP, and Carson King scored a pair of touchdowns. Harrison Green was 8-for-16 for 142 yards and a TD, and Gunnar Askeland had an 80-yard kickoff return TD for the Dolphins.

Stauffer (13 tackles) and King (10 tackles) led the defensive effort for HHP.

BA (4-2, 2-0) hosts Thomas Sumter for a non-region game Friday, while HHP (1-3-1, 0-1) hosts Orangeburg Prep for a region contest.
