According to a media release, the City of Beaufort is requesting proposals from interested and qualified individuals to provide indigent legal defense services in the Beaufort Municipal Court.
The Sixth Amendment to the United States and South Carolina Constitution requires Municipalities to provide indigent persons charged with criminal offenses and facing the possibility of incarceration with a competent attorney who can provide effective assistance of counsel.

The non-mandatory pre-bid meeting is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 29 in the Planning Department Conference Room on the first floor of City Hall.
Questions are due by 4 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 30. Answers will be posted by 4 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 4.
Bids submissions are due on or before 2 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 6. A public bid opening will be held in the City Hall Finance Department, Executive Conference Room 2 at that time.
